Not all assignments are created equal. Calculate your true class average by factoring in the weight of homework, quizzes, and exams.
| Assignment Name (Optional) | Grade (%) | Weight (%) |
|---|
In many courses, not all assignments are worth the same amount. A final exam might be worth 40% of your grade, while homework is only worth 10%. To calculate this correctly, you cannot just take the average of your scores; you must use a weighted average.
The weighted average is calculated using this simple formula:
Imagine you have the following grades:
Calculation: (90×20 + 80×20 + 85×60) / 100
= (1800 + 1600 + 5100) / 100
= 8500 / 100
= 85%
Know exactly what you need to score.
Use this tool to plan ahead. Enter your current grades, then estimate what you need on your final exam to keep your A or pass the class. It takes the guesswork out of finals week.
Smart planning leads to better grades.
This tool calculates the percentage for a single class. To calculate your cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) across multiple classes, you would take the letter grades resulting from this calculator and assign them point values (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.).
Simply convert your points to a percentage first. For example, if you scored 45 out of 50 on a test, calculate 45 ÷ 50 = 0.90, which is 90%. Enter "90" into the Grade column.
